At Ducharme Dog Company, our mission through the BLUE Training Program is to help owners understand that every dog is unique in both behavior and personality, and that building a stronger connection takes learning, understanding, and encouragement.
We believe training is about more than simply teaching your dog to sit, stay, or come when called. It’s about learning how your dog communicates, understanding why they do the things they do, and finding ways to work together.
Through practical, personalized training, our goal is to give owners the knowledge, tools, and confidence to better communicate with their dogs. We want training to feel less overwhelming and more like a way to strengthen the bond you already share.
Because at the end of the day, a well-trained dog isn't just a dog that listens. It’s a dog and owner who understand each other and know how to communicate effectively.
Who is Blue and Why is She the Logo?
“That’s a pretty simple question to answer. I chose her because Blue was everything. The start of everything, actually. I was 12 when Blue was brought into my home in Michigan from Oklahoma by my father, Jason Ducharme, who transports and trains horses. She was a Blue Heeler/Border Collie mix, and she was the prettiest dog I had ever seen. We met with matching blue eyes, and in that moment, I think we both decided to be best friends. Blue sparked a love for dogs that I didn’t know I had or hadn’t really given much thought to. But once I had her, everything became for her and with her. I started working with her at home, got my first kennel job at 15, and have continued working with dogs in any and every capacity possible ever since. Every dog I work with and every owner I help is because of Blue. We lost Blue to lymphoma at just 10 years old. When I started my own dog training business at 23, I couldn’t think of a better logo or representation of who I am and why I do what I do. Blue was, to me, the perfect dog. She changed the direction of my life, gave me a love and passion for working with dogs, and ultimately became the reason Ducharme Dog Company exists. The BLUE Training Program
Behavior
All dog training starts with behaviors. Whether Fluffy is tearing up your couch cushions or you want to train your dog to do a backflip, it all starts with shaping behavior and teaching dogs the desired behaviors we want to see from them.
Learning
In this moment, we identify the behaviors we’re seeing and start learning why they happen. We look at your dog’s breed history, genetics, past and current environments, and even their breed’s original purpose.
Understanding
Once we can start to understand our dogs’ behavior and history, We can better understand why they act the way they do and how to shape their behavior in a way that strengthens the bond between you and your dog.
Encouraging
Our mission is to encourage dogs to live up to their full potential and encourage owners to help lay the foundations to get them there.
